Debate “Women in Politics”

On April 18, 2023, an important debate on “Women in Politics” took place, organized by the youth think tanks operating under the auspices of SIPE (Silesian Institute of Political Education). This event was the result of independent work by young members of the think tanks who chose the topic themselves, arranged contacts with the speakers, and ensured that the main political forces in the country (Poland) were equally represented.

Key to the success of the debate was obtaining the patronage of Anna Schmidt, the Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Treatment. Her support further emphasized the significance of the topic and contributed to promoting the idea of equality in politics.

The panelists of the debate included Members of the Polish Parliament – Monika Rosa and Paulina Matysiak, as well as Councilwomen – Renata Glenc and Alina Bednarz. They discussed the representation of women in politics, mechanisms for equality, and egalitarianism. The event was part international project “Think Tank – Chance for Youth,” co-financed by the European Union.

The venue for the meeting, Sympozjalna II Hall at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Silesia in Katowice, underscored the academic nature of the debate and highlighted the role of education in shaping future leaders. The main goal of the meeting was to emphasize the role of women in politics and promote the values of egalitarianism.

The patronage of Anna Schmidt, support from the Mayor of Katowice, as well as collaboration with institutions such as the FEIS Foundation, International Studies in Political Science and Diplomacy at the University of Silesia, KNEO (Scientific Circle for Civic Education), and the Scientific Circle for Equality and Diversity at the University of Silesia, contributed to the success of this event.

The debate served as evidence that the youth think tank SIPE and FEIS actively participate in discussions on women in politics and egalitarianism, and their actions contribute to the development of social and political awareness among young people.
